What Is Peripheral Neuropathy?
Peripheral neuropathy develops when the nerves outside the brain and spinal cord become damaged or stop functioning properly. These nerves carry signals between your central nervous system and the rest of your body, including your hands, feet, legs, and arms.
When those signals are disrupted, you may experience:
- Burning or shooting pain
- Tingling or “pins and needles”
- Numbness in the hands or feet
- Weakness in the arms or legs
- Loss of balance or coordination
- Sensitivity to touch or pressure
- The sensation of wearing gloves or socks when you’re not
For many people, symptoms gradually worsen over time and become especially noticeable at night.
What Causes Neuropathy?
Peripheral neuropathy can develop for several reasons, including diabetes, blood sugar dysregulation, chemotherapy, certain medications, vitamin deficiencies, circulatory problems, spinal compression, trauma, or repetitive injury.
Sometimes, no single cause is clearly identified. What matters most is identifying the underlying dysfunction and creating a plan that supports nerve health rather than simply masking symptoms.
Our Approach to Care
Every neuropathy case is different. Dr. Phipps begins with a thorough assessment to better understand the nature and likely source of your symptoms before recommending care.
Depending on your needs, your care plan may include therapies such as cold laser therapy, red light therapy, or spinal decompression. The goal is to support the body’s healing process, improve function, and help you regain confidence in your movement and daily life.
We’ll also be straightforward about what to expect. Our focus is helping you make meaningful progress as efficiently as possible, not extending care unnecessarily.
Take the First Step
Neuropathy can affect your sleep, mobility, and quality of life, but you don’t have to ignore the symptoms or simply “live with it.” Many patients who seek care early notice improvements in comfort, balance, and daily function.
